At Boyd Gaming, we believe in education and the profound impact it can have on our team members and their families. Recently, the Company awarded 25 college scholarships to children of our team members who plan to continue their education in college. In total, $45,000 in financial assistance was awarded across 18 Boyd Gaming properties to alleviate some of the financial burdens of higher education.

Boyd Gaming, in partnership with Scholarship America, opens the application program in April to dependent children, ages 21 and under, of full-time Boyd Gaming team members. Eligible applications are then reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team ahead of selections in June. Once approved, students receive a $2,500 scholarship to an accredited institution of their choice and can apply to renew at $1,500 for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned. This initiative is part of Boyd Gaming’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and our belief in striving to make our communities better places because we are a part of them.

Derek Timput, a recipient of the Boyd Gaming scholarship, is the son of two dedicated long-term team members who proudly work for the Company. When asked what this scholarship meant to Derek he said, “I was able to propel myself into a college education as it has been one of my lifelong dreams. I was able to pursue a degree in Hospitality at the best hospitality university in the world while being able to proudly say that Boyd supported me.” Derek will be the first in his family to attend university and complete his degree in just three years.
