Sam's Town Shreveport Team Members Spruce Up Northwest Louisiana
6/8/2023
In May, United Way of
Northwest Louisiana hosted their annual Day of Caring, a one-day,
community-wide event that connects nearly 700 volunteers with projects at local
nonprofits. This year, Sam’s
Town Hotel & Casino, Shreveport volunteers partnered with Shreveport Green to improve
a community garden, The Urban Farm.
During the volunteer event, team members assisted with
setting up new raised beds, weeding existing beds and clearing the grounds at
The Urban Farm to create better access for the underserved and elderly
community, as well as those with disabilities. At the garden, underserved
citizens are encouraged to pick fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables, as
well as pick out seeds and propagated plants to inspire the joy of personal gardening.
With the help of our volunteers, The Urban Farm is now more accessible than
ever before.
“Events such as these help to build a strong sense of pride
for our community and our business,” said Michelle Nikl-Jordan, Team Member
Relations Manager at Sam’s Town. “Team members that volunteer love to see the
fruits of their labors and enjoy the friendships they build.”
Sam’s Town Shreveport volunteers will be returning to The
Urban Farm later this month to help paint a 40-foot shipping container. Shreveport
Green will then convert the shipping container into an outdoor classroom where
local students and interested residents can learn about plants and sustainable
gardening, along with healthy cooking and eating habits.
Thank you to our team members for sprucing up the area and continuing to better the communities we call home!
